The chat client Windows Live Messenger is installed on the recipient's host machine. Is the IP address and other identifying information kept on that computer in, say, under the "AppData" folders or other such thing? Is it human readable? Or does the person log in through a web page interface to gain access to this information somehow? |

| | Re: Source IP addresses in text chat sent to recipient? Greetings, Where are these IP addresses exactly? Are you by chance thinking of the actual file names of the XML files? For instance jonathan1057908650.xml? If so, the number here is not an IP address - it is a hash of the Windows Live ID. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "d3aths3rver" <guest@newsgroup-email.com> wrote in message news:d53885cc3820daa8156ecceb40b0448d@newsgroup-gateway.com... When(.. this is a few years ago now) windows live messenger (the predecessor) was msn messenger, a source IP address was logged in an instant message folder when a person was to log their messages. I am unaware if this is the case now, because the interface is similar I assumed this was also the case now. If it is not, I am genuinely sorry for posting false information. |
