Hi, I can't sign in to my WLM at all. Everytime I get signed in, I get
disconnected immediately and it just keeps disconnecting after logged in
until I exit it.

Double check to make sure the date, time and time zone on your router AND on
your computer are correct. They need to be correct and they need to match.
Adjust them if necessary and see if that makes a difference for you.

Greetings,
As a first step, you should try removing the local saved Messenger contact database which
will force it to rebuild your contacts from the server on the next startup.
To do so, head over the following folder;
For XP:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live
Contacts
For Vista/Win7
\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden
by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.
You'll need to remove this Windows Live Contacts folder. After it's gone, restart Messenger
and try to sign in again.
If that doesn't help at all, knowing what Windows version you are using, and anything else
networking related you have setup (routers, firewall software, etc.) would be helpful.

Jonathan,
Thanks for responding to my question.
I followed the steps but after selecting to view the hidden folders, I could
not locate a folder named windows live contacts inside the microsift folder.
Could this be the problem?
I am using windows XP 2003

Flav

Hi,
Oh that's interesting, yes it certainly could be. So then this has never worked (so it's
never downloaded the contacts)?
Did you just install or Messenger, or what's the story there?

Our office is having the same issue with about 5 users.
We all use win 7 fully patched and Mcafee 4.5.
we also all go through the same ISA 2k6 box (doesnt work bypassing it either)
we all also go through the same user stack (which i verified has the correct
time zone)
we are seperated into teams of 5 and my team of 5 does not have this issue.
The team that is having the issue can log into another account from the same
machine and it works fine. we have deleted the contacts folder as suggested
and tried removing the msn/windowslive contacts regkey.
Any help with this would be great.
Thanks!

Have you tried getting troubleshooting logs for each case and comparing them
for essential differences?
Otherwise, assuming the problem is networking I would try tracing with
WireShark. I think Fiddler2 could also be used if you set up the proxy
correctly. If the problem seems more to be with permissions ProcMon
would be a good tool to do the comparison with.
Good luck

Resolution found!!!!
i did some more searching on these forums and found some users with same
issue. they said they were able to log in under invis and not get kicked off
immediately. another user said it seemed to start happenning after he
created a group. well our 5 users that were having the issues had created a
group. had them delete the group and everyone is working perfectly now!
thanks! hope this will help some others.
