Greetings,
Some day. It keeps getting promised but never materializes.
Using Skype seems to work well in the Mac <-> Windows webcam scenarios.

Hi,
Just for your information, no need to try other messenger programs. I spend
lots of time trying Linux to work with WLM, till i found this on the web:
________________________________
We (the aMSN team) want to soon release aMSN version 0.98.2 because of the
various issues we faced with 0.98.1 because Microsoft changed their
protocols.. mainly the problem with the nickname changing to the email at
every connection.
We also recently realized that the Audio/Video capability would need to be
dropped because it just doesn't work anymore unfortunately
Microsoft forced everyone to upgrade to the latest version of Windows Live
Messenger : WLM 2009 which uses MSNP18 and has the ability to do Audio/Video
calls through a tunneled SIP (P2P SIP messages, not using an external SIP
server) and so, they realized that their SIP servers aren't being used
anymore, so they had this great idea of shutting down their servers. the
result? aMSN can't do Audio/Video calls because the SIP server refuses our
connections.
________________________________
I agree with Jonathan, Skype works great between a Mac and Windows.
There is one "interesting thing" i want to share about Skype.
I'm using skype for hours a day, with a person who have * not a high end
mobile internet connection* on his Mac.
If the connection is bad, mainly it will affect the Audio lots. (deleyed
sound, stops for seconds or sentences can come over repeatedly). After
replacing the USB 1.0 webcam for an USB 2.0 webcam (logitech 9000 pro), the
video was still the same, but the quality of the audio was significant
improved.
And for audio it is still better to connect a good mic. to the soundcard,
then using the mic. on the cam.
Tested it several times on different evenings, and still the same result.
I'm not an expert, so i can only guess the reason why.
Just my experience as a (heavy) skype user.

Hi,
This thread somehow got lost and it's a month old, but I thought I'd add a little more to
this. I forgot the aMSN thing, hopefully that's worked around soon.
Messenger:Mac beta does now have audio/video support, I have to admit I haven't had an
opportunity to really try and see how it's managed:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/product...8/default.mspx
I know it's rather unattractive to sit there using a separate headset with someone (as
opposed to being able to sit there using the webcam mic in the marketing materials), but it
really is the best way for audio quality. I admit the very recent laptop's I've used with
array microphones does do a fairly good job though, so that may be a preferred solution if
you want to avoid the headset problem.
