Thanks for your response, Steve.

I reinstalled OneCare from the CD, rebooted the system, then it asked me to
login to my Windows Live account.
I did that, I think I ended up at exactly where I started. It never gave me
a chance to enter my new product key.

I suppose I can try the reinstall again, but start with a new Windows Live
account, but I really don't want to create a new ID just for the OneCare
activation.

I will try the customer support on Monday.

Try going to http://billing.microsoft.com to sign in and renew. Note that it can
take 24 hours to reflect the status in OneCare on the PC if you renew that way.

Thanks again for a quick response, Steve.

I think the reason why I am having such a hard time re-activating my OneCare
account is that they may think that I am a deadbeat.

I had forgotten that the credit card number I used to subscribe to OneCare
was a virtual credit card number that is only good for once. Then it took me
a while to figure out why I could not login to my Windows Live account
through the billing URL because I was using a separate MSDN account to
login.

Since I have already purchased a retail version of OneCare, I will try the
customer service to re-activate my OneCare account instead of updating my
credit card number online.

You must mean "crazy people" like me. <g>
You're welcome and I'm hopeful that your customer service experience goes well,
too.

Hi, Art. No, you can only extend a 12 month subscription with one key to make it
a max of 24 months. After you are down to 12 months or less, you will likely be
able to extend it again with another key.

Smile Re: OneCare renewal

I had the same question about the renewal and I found an answer here. Thanks for the discussion.

And NOW, Here's my question.

I found Amazon sells OneCare 2.0 for free after mail-in-rebate at this moment. Can I buy multiple copies and use it later?

If I buy this one now, can I use it's code a few month later for me? Or, once I submit the rebate, it'll automatically start counting? In some way, this is interesting point. What if I buy two of this product, can I use one this time and the other for next year? I may not be able to get $30 rebate for both. But still, I think, if this registration code is working in 2009, it would be interesting.

Since this product can cover 3 PCs, how about 3 people get 3 products and get rebates (so it makes no one pay anything) and using codes for 3 years for all three people. I know it's somewhat theoretical... However, is it technically possible?

Regards,
Jason

Re: OneCare renewal

You can renew with a retail code at any time while your subscription is active
and 12 months or less until expiration.
So, yes, if you obtained 3 retail copies and held onto them, you could use one
key within the next few months after renewal, when your expiration date was less
than 12 months away and then after your subscription counted down to below 12
months again, use the 3rd retail key to renew. So, you cannot stack the keys for
a 3 year subscription, you can hold them and use them later.
The terms of the rebate are not known to me, so you may need to get friends or
family to actually make the purchase and submit the rebate forms.

I went to Amazon and just now ordered it. It does say there's a rebate
available but it does not show any details. Clicking on the rebate thing
just takes you to the same page over and over, and no mention of the rebate
during check-out, so I hope I get something in the mail along with the CD.
It does state that there's a limit of one per household on this deal,
though.
