MsMpEng,exe -- Is this OneCare at work?

I'm running OneCare 2.0 on a Dell I1100 notebook under WinXP Home SP2.

Since I've installed OneCare, MsMpEng causes a tremendous amount of disk
activity and uses 50MB of memory. If this is OneCare's work, what in the
world is it doing?

It should access the disk fairly heavily soon after PC startup for about 10 to
15 minutes or less and again at the time your "quick scan" is scheduled on the
virus and spyware tab.
msmpeng is part of the antimalware engine in OneCare.
