Sheesh.....
I have 4 computers networked- 3 using OneCare. Last night, I turned on one of the computers I seldom use. I got some OneCare about how it couldn't load until it downloaded something or other- which apparently was a windows program- then I noticed that OneCare loaded but now it is version 2. I had no idea it was going to automatically install V2, but that's OK. While doing that, I had my main computer also running. I then went back to the main computer to see if it also was going to download V2. So, I clicked on the icon in the tray- the program loaded, but not correctly. It appears to load, but I then see the busy signal (which for Vista is a spinning circle)- and that circle just keeps on spinning, as if it's trying to download something with no success. It just doesn't stop and I can't click on any of the buttons in the program. When I click on the X to close the program, I get a windows message saying that the program is not responding- that I can either wait, or close the program. I AM NOT PLEASED ABOUT THIS. This is why I quite using McAfee, the endless issues over keeping that program running. In other discussions in the OneCare newsgroups I've reported having a problem getting the help functions to work (they don't). So, what should I do? Uninstall, then reinstall? I purchased online so I don't have a disk. Presumably, I will be allowed to reinstall again? Or is this problem something to do with my other computer now upgraded to OneCare V2? Joe |

OK, as I expected- apparently OneCare was trying to download the new
version- and it couldn't get access to the server since too many people were downloading- so, it just kept trying and since it couldn't succeed- it didn't allow OneCare to run properly- that is, it seemed to be working in the tray, but when I clicked on the icon, and the program tried to load- it would sort of load then I'd see the circle spinning busy signal (on Vista). Just now, when I booted up, Vista's Security feature told me that I had no AV program running- then, I got a message saying OneCare had downloaded the new program and that I'd have to reboot- which I did and now everything seems to be working. It would be nice if V2 wasn't forced on us like this and, if the program can't get access, it would be better programming for it to stop trying- while we get some message that OneCare is trying to download, etc., etc. At least now I can relax as I really don't like it when programs act up like this without letting us know what's going on. Are you on dial-up, Joe?
Thanks for the comments about the upgrade process - I don't care for it either. -steve "Joe" <abc@xxxxxx> wrote:
