Open OneCare.
Click Change Settings.
On the Firewall tab, click Configure Firewall
Make sure that the Network is shown as "Home or Work" and not "Public"
If it is "Public" click Change Location
Click Advanced settings
On the Ports and protocols tab -
place a check mark next to ICMPv4 Inbound
note the state of the two entries for File and Printer Sharing:
- for local network(subnet) should be checked
- for subnet and Internet can optionally be checked.
On the Network connections tab -
make sure that there is only one active connection listed as connected.
More than one active connection may cause the firewall to default to Public
state, no matter that you've identified the network(s) as "Home or Work."

Pings are not responded to by default unless you configure the ICMPv4 setting.
OneCare 2.0 was tested extensively before release, Thomas. There was a Public
beta that went on for much of the last half of 2007.

Re: Workgroup Issues

Steve

Thanks for the info

I can now ping great

Still can not view the other pcs in the workgroup display but I can connect
via IE7

How long does the network take to discover or should I restart the PC's
after these changes

Thanks again

Tom

Re: Workgroup Issues

The PCs should appear in workgroup immediately without a reboot, though you may
need to do a refresh.
Did you verify that only one network adapter was shown as connected?
Did you try the option to do File and Printer Sharing for Internet and subnet?

Re: Workgroup Issues

Steve

Yes only one network adaptor is active
Yes I checked File and Print sharing for intenet and subnet on all three
pc's

What do you mean a refresh? F5 on the display If so done that several times

I will try a restart

I did restart the browser service and that did not help

Thanks for the help

Re: Workgroup Issues

Yes, the F5 refresh would be what I meant, Thomas.
Still not working?

Re: Workgroup Issues

Steve

Sorrry for the delay
Yes I tried F5 and nothing

On my pc I only see my PC in the display

"View workgroup computers is the display"

On the other two pc's in the same workgroup they only see my computer in the
display

That is strange they should at least see themselves

It kind of works right after a restart the appear but after awhile they are
gone

This only started after the upgrade of WOC with all this new oncecare circle
features which is nice

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tom

PS PING is still working thanks for that info

Re: Workgroup Issues

I suggest opening a support case, Thomas. The browser service should not be
continually restarting.
