Configure Firewall / Location Setting Persistence

Hi all!

I have a PC in my house (running XP SP2) that is connected to my LAN via
wireless connection.

Occasionally when this machine is booted, OneCare reverts the Configure
Firewall / Location setting to "Public Place", thus not allowing my
persistent network connections (like printers) to work until I manually
switch the setting to "Home or Work".

Is there a way to make this setting persist? This machine will never need
the "Public Place" setting.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Configure Firewall / Location Setting Persistence

The setting should be persistent in that OneCare recognizes the DHCP information
provided by the router to set up the network connection and remembers this.
When it doesn't happen vs. when it happens, are the network settings otherwise
the same? IP address, gateway, DNS, etc?

Re: Configure Firewall / Location Setting Persistence

Thanks Steve, and sorry for the delayed reply

Well, it hasn't occurred now in weeks, but I don't use that machine much..

Eventually maybe I'll find a reproducible situation that makes OneCare
change the location setting.

My first thought was service startup order - if the wireless adapter service
manages to start before OneCare checks the network connection, then maybe it
assumes a public place(?)

I'll keep looking

Thanks much,
Mark

Take your time, Mark. :-)
If you ever find the repro, do let us know!
