Help me Obi-Wan LiveCare You're my only hope

After finally solving various Windows Live OneCare problems on a pair of
laptop computers, I thought my life would finally go back to "normal."

Only now, the "Windows Live OneCare could not install a critical update"
message greets me now. Clicking help brings up the "Reset Permissions"
Fixit button, which does absolutely nothing. Well, it apparently does run
some kind of command prompt command and restarts, but with the exact same
errors every time. Clicking on "help on the web" just brings you to that
24/7 assistant, which offers no assistance. Searching on permissions only
brings up backup permissions.

Since the firewall and virus protections ARE working, one wonders why the
"can't install an update" puts the danged thing in red instead of yellow.

One would think that a corporation as huge and well-endowed (financially)
would attempt to provide help for error conditions, and help for when their
provided "help" for error conditions don't work. They pay those programmers
a heck of a lot more than this programmer makes.

Off to google (non-optimistically)

Bill,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with Live OneCare. As a subscriber, you get unlimited support, phone, live chat, etc. I also have Live OneCare and have on occasion made use of their support. Your not alone with Live OneCare. Simply call their support guru's and they'll get things sorted out for you.

Thanks for responding.

Where does one find the contact information? The only help I've seen is
help files on the computer and on-line, but no phone numbers, no chat
options that I can find.

FWIW, this web page has -helped- but the problem is not yet solved. But at
least I now know how to navigate the "help" to actually get some help.
Apparently while MS advertises the free e-mail, phone, and chat support,
they don't necessarily want everyone to know how to access it.

Bill:

I'm glad to hear you found their support resource. Yeah, they don't give you the support telephone number until after you validate your subscription.

I hope they can get things sorted out for you.

Best wishes,

They did. It took about an hour, but they managed to fix the problem. The
Easy Assist system is pretty cool. Sort of like CrossLoop.

Boy, I could have used that help three weeks ago.

Re: Help me Obi-Wan LiveCare You're my only hope

I'm sorry to read that you've run into this problem, Bill.
I would recommend reinstalling OneCare at this point if it is in red condition
for a failed update to itself or contact support.
