OneCare Firewall Blocking Emails

My OneCare firewall is set to "Allow" several programs on the Firewall
Advanced Settings including Microsoft Outlook. However it consistently
blocks both incoming and outgoing emails. When I turn OneCare firewall off,
emails are sent/received OK. I'm looking for suggestions on how to have the
OneCare firewall running without losing my email services using Outlook.
System is Dell Dimension E520 with Vista Ultimate OS; ISP - Charter
Communications cable.

OneCare should have no impact on email sending or receiving. It may be due to
other security software running on the PC that is in conflict with OneCare.
The only other reason that this *used* to happen was if OneCare was on a PC with
Dynamic disk partitions as programs residing on a Dynamic Disk will often change
their hash or footprint that OneCare uses to identify a known program. It no
longer happens, since OneCare refuses to install on a PC when it sees a Dynamic
Disk partition.
What was your prior security software if it was uninstalled? Are you only seeing
problems with Outlook and OneCare or are there other firewall oddites?

Re: OneCare Firewall Blocking Emails

Problem solved. Yes, I still was running Symantec Antivirus. I removed it,
and the email works fine with the OneCare firewall on. By the way, the SAV
had had many opportunities to find several malicious attachments buried in
inactive .pst files stored on my harddrives, but did not. OneCare
identified about six such files on its first full scan.

Thank you!

Re: OneCare Firewall Blocking Emails

Great! I'm surprised that OneCare didn't see Symantec installed and warn you or
offer to remove it during install. Was it the corporate client?

Re: OneCare Firewall Blocking Emails

Thanks for confirming. I guess OneCare isn't coded to recognize that one as a
conflict. It looks at the consumer client and throws a conflict warning.
