WLPG stops working - DEP

Hi,

apologies if this has been aired before. Whenever I open WPG or WLPG it
works for about 5 seconds then shuts down. After shut down i am informed
that 'To help protect my computer Data Execution Protection has closed down
the program'

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Cass

Hi Cass,

On which Operating system is this? Also, have you got the latest version of
Windows Live Photo Gallery from http://photogallery.live.com/ ?

Re: WLPG stops working - DEP

Sunshine,

sorry about the delay in response , I have Vista Home Premium which came
with Windows Photo Gallery. Additionally I have already downloaded the WLPG
from the link you have detailed. Both operate in the same manner and close
down shortly after being opened.

Thank you for the suggestions but i am absolutely stumped by this one - have
spent hours on the internet looking for a solution....

Thanks again

Cass

Re: WLPG stops working - DEP

First off, I have no idea why these programs trigger DEP to step in, maybe
someone else can explain that, but to offer some sort of "solution".....

.... start by looking how DEP is set on your machine. If it is already set to
"Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only", you can try
disabling DEP for those programs.

Since I do not have Vista here myself I will quote a little something from a
blog article:
To explore your default system wide DEP policy for 32bit applications
(remember - the system wide DEP policy only applies to 32bit applications)
on Vista simply click start, then type 'system' and then scroll down and
click the search result entitled 'system'. On the new window that pops up
click 'Advanced System Settings', elevate it to admin when prompted and then
click the 'Settings' button under 'Performance'. Finally - click the 'Data
Execution Prevention' tab.

http://blogs.technet.com/robert_hens...explained.aspx

Good luck, let us know how you get on with this (would also be good to know
if you are running 32 or 64 bits Vista)

Re: WLPG stops working - DEP

Cass,

Sorry for late reply but I've been thinking about this one for a while.

So you can't for Windows Photo Gallery, does it allow you to do so for
Windows Live Photo Gallery? You did elevate to admin yea? I fear just doing
so from a regular admin account without elevating to full admin won't do (if
possible at all).

If that doesn't work than I'm stumped, can't try for myself as I'm still on
Windows XP (only has software DEP, which never gave me problems), I really
would have otherwise.

Re: WLPG stops working - DEP

What type of antivirus software you have running on your system?
It might be shutting down application for some reason.

Also, are you able to successfully run any other Windows Live application?
Such as Messenger or Writer?

Were you able to run Photo Gallery successfully ever?

What software you usually use to edit your photos?
What is the main location of your photos? Are they all under My Pictures or
somewhere else?

Thanks,
Galina
