Vista - WLPG Crashing on save

New to this excellent forum, found a wealth of information but cannot find any references to the problem im experiencing.

Vista 32bit Home Premium, with images stored on a Freecom 500gb Network Hard Drive. i can open WLPG fine (very slow opening) and browse the images etc but if i perform any action that requires a save then i get the "error has occurred - will restart message" this includes rtclk rotate on a thumbnail and all edits crops etc. but not if i rename a file.

Same thing happens using WLPG on XP, actually it also happens on WPG

Thanks for any ideas that will help cure this.
