WLPG beta impressions

Not much new in this betarelease - I was really expecting more to come
than this - hyped as it is. Is there really anything significant under
the refreshed looks at all?

I had high hopes for the face detection function, but must say that I
am not impressed.

Why?

1. What has Live Messenger to do with this? Really annoying. I have
built a hiarchy of persons and I would like to be able to associate
these with "faces". Hate the Messenger list popping up. Please remove
this meaningless Live Messenger integration and hook face recognition
into the tag hierarchy - or at least let me choose to. I actually have
a Persons hiarchy I'd like to build upon. Not my contact list.

2. I would expect some fuzzy intelligence into this technology - face
recognition actually. To ease the tagging process I would expect WLPG
beeing able, not only to identify a face, but also to find similar
faces in a batch. That would be something...

Other things I would have expected in this release? Full lossless JPEG
functionality, including lossess crop, rotate and red eye removal.

And how do I remove folders that I do not want in WLPG? Now I have a
complete mess of RAW-files and developed Jpegs and no idea how I can
remove any. "Hide" does not help as far as I can see.

I am also surprised to see that no real functionality has been added
to tagging - to ease working with tags, or organize/ administrate
tags/ keywording.

I know this is a first beta, but as far as improvements and new
functionality, I can really not understand all the fuzz.

Re: WLPG beta impressions

I too was a little disappointed with the facial tagging, but not from
anything the Live Team has said... websites such as LiveSide perhaps made
the feature out to be greater then was intended for now.

As it is, I still find it very useful. Removing the Messenger integration
would go against the entire aim of the Live products and services and just
because it isn't useful for you doesn't make it pointless for others. I like
it.

From the sound of your post, why aren't you using MS ProPhoto tools instead?

Speaking for myself, I would say that Pro Photo Tools 2 is little more than
a simple metadata editor and geotagger. Useful in itself, but hardly a
Digital Asset Management tool, which is what I thought Bjorn was driving at
when he spoke of organizing/administrating tags/keywords. See
