| Windows Update Messed Up DVD!!!! Today i was watching a DVD on my laptop using Windows Media Centre and Media Player no problems. I then found that there were 4 windows updates that needed installing. So i downloaded them, installed and restarted and now DVDs will not play in either program. I get >> "windows media player cannot play this dvd because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your dvd drive, decoder, and video card." The 4 updates i downloaded were >> Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.24.5399.0) Installation date: 12/01/2008 23:07 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important Security Update for Windows Vista (KB941644) Installation date: 12/01/2008 23:07 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important Update for Windows Vista (KB943411) Installation date: 12/01/2008 23:07 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - January 2008 (KB890830) Installation date: 12/01/2008 23:07 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important I've tried finding a way to un-install them but i dont believe you can uninstall "important" updates or from windows defender. I am using a ATI HD 2600 will fully updated drivers so no problems there. Is there anyway i can get my DVD playback working again??? Thanks |

| Re: Windows Update Messed Up DVD!!!! I have the same video card, and found that when I used an DVI-D to DVI-D cable connected to my LCD monitor, I had the same error trying to play DVD's. I connected the monitor with a VGA connection (with the VGA adapter on the video card side), and the problem was solved. I have VISTA Ultimate x64, and couldn't understand for quite a while why, no matter what else I tried, I got this and other errors trying to play DVD's. Try that, hopefully it will help. |
