Tuners and Media Centers

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone as seen a comprehensive list of the various media center applications and the tuners they support?

I have been compiling a little one.. but it could use some help.

I'm doing this mainly because my tuner isn't supported on MS's Media Center.

Microsoft Media Center: no combination cards supported (like mine - the Asus 9520, aka Nvidia Geforce 5200, which has the tuner built into the video card)

Intervideo Home Theater 2: mine works great, but they don't seem to support digial tv - so my satellite recvr won't be able to be controled by the Intervideo remote control that i got with the card...etc... (I can only choose cable or antenna as the source - not satellite or stb) Otherwise, i use it fine. Support sucks, and it has been bought by Corel recently.

Meebia - bought by Yahoo, now Yahoo! Go - TV.. seems they have a short list, haven't tried mine

Moxi TV for PC - not out yet, looks promising

Cyberlink PowerCinema - haven't tried it yet

Beyond TV - tried it in the past, didn't work. may try it again now that i have the latest drivers for all my stuff.

ShowShifter - haven't tried it.

Can anyone fill in any details so i don't have to try every one of these?

Running Vista 64 Home Premium, Hauppauge 250 PVR and having major issues trying to get the software to work. Downloaded the latest drivers and numerous emails with Hauppauge, but still no success.

I'm using Pinnacle PCTV 800e (HD pro stick) external USB tuner with good success under media center, for off air tuning digital staitons only however.

Re: Tuners and Media Centers

Showshifter has been dormant for several years; it may reappear as MediaPhoenix, but don't hold your breath, it's over 18 months since a release was anticipated.

Showshifter was excellent with my Hauppauge Nova-T PCI tuner in 32-bit XP, but decidedly flaky in Vista 32-bit. I also found the free Media Portal locked up at the drop of a hat in Vista. The Hauppage WinTV works for me (new 4.1 version just out, 17 Dec '07 drivers), but my God it's ugly and the EPG opens in your browser FFS.

VMC can't even see my card.

Not quite large enough, unfortunately. My Nova-T PCI card isn't on it...

Re: Tuners and Media Centers

Nvidia Geforce 5200 has no driver support for Vista. That's probably why your ASUS with Tuner doesn't fly.
When faced with the 5200 situation in a multi-display situation, I eBayed a pair of 6200's for not too much $.
