Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

Hi Sebya, I have tried to do the TV set up but still get TUNER NOT FOUND. I spent the day with HP. I did the Media center error in vista, no help. I opened the computer and took the card out and reinstall but that didn"t help. I had allready done a system recovery using disks purchased from HP. They are sending me a new card, and at first they were going to have me send in the computer but changed their minds. I have a Pavilion s3120n slimline with A ViXS PureTV-U 48A3 (NTSC/ATSC Combo) card. My O/S is Vista Home Premium 32 bit AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20GHz, 2.00 GB RAM, Nvida GeForce 6150 LE and Service Pack 1. Computer is 7 mos. old. Any help will be welcome. Thanks.

Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

Hi, I read your reply, let me explain you, the reason why HP does a Full System Reinstallation is because: since (Supposing) your PC used to take the TV Tuner Card with Windows Media Center it is possible that the issue can be resolved, anyway to be honest with you I personally think that you had a Hardware issue, because if it was a Software issue, Why reinstalling the OS would not work??
Another thing is that HP sends a Hardware Diagnostics Tool, it is a tool in built with the PC, and it is very accurate, you can find it here: Start-->All Programs-->PC Help and Tools-->Hardware Diagnostics Tool.
With your old Card did some one of us tell you to Switch the Slot of the TV Tuner Card before doing the Recovery??
Did you run a Test with the HDT on the TV Tuner Card???
Did we tell you to uninstall the Microsoft.net Framework???
Did reinstall the Drivers using the HP Recovery Manager??
Did upgrade the Drivers before replacing the Card???, Using the HP Drivers Upgrade or the ones from the Original Manufacturer???
Did you install any Media Software to burn CDs or to use with a Digital Camera??
This maybe Stupid but it worked before for us: Did you run WMC as administrator???
Was there any chance to use another Program to watch TV???
I will need to answer me this questions, I will search for the Registry Entries of how they should be working Properly, besides the Name of your TV Tuner is not the Name you gave me, usually the Name is another, I will search that for you and will see if there are New Drivers in the original manufacturer webpage.

Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

Hi Sebya, You are correct with it being a hardware issue, as soon as I replaced the card and hit set up TV it was there. I hooked up rabbit ears but no reception so I tried cable and got all the channels plus guide. I think it said one tuner found do you want to configer. I will answer the questions above in a couple of days to help others also. There was at least 150 questions I came across from users with this problem. With reference to the name of the card that is what I gave HP and I got the same card back from them, it has ViXS right on the card. Anyway I will post in a day or so after I try out this new card but for now it gets all the channels plus guide only problem is that the picture is not as clear as I would like. Proably the distance I had to run the cable. Have a great day and THANK YOU for your concern.

Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

Mmmm, sometimes it may happen that the Picture is not clear because there is interference in the cable signal, that is something that can be improved with a Signal amplifier, I have in my PC an old Winfast TV 2000 btv878, and it is great but since the receptor is not as good as the one from the TV I needed one of those, when I connected it it allowed me to watch the TV more clear, but of course it can never be compared with a TV that is design for that purpose, anyway this Device will help, mmmm but first I would recommend you to check if there is any way to configure some parameters of the WMC, like frequency, horizontal, vertical, etc, that may work. I hope you enjoy your TV Tuner.

Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

I have a Sony Laptop, with built in TV Tuner. I didn't use it often, but when I did it worked beautifully with no problems. I didn't use it for a few months and the next time I did try, I got the "TV Tuner not found error message. Since then it has not worked, no matter what I try. It was still in warrenty so I rang Sony. Their engineers were aware of the problem. They asked if I had installed Windows media Player 11. I had, so I said yes. they assured me that that was what had knocked out the TV Tuner. They said the only way to get it working again would be to do a factory reset, and not install WMP11 on the machine.

Soapman, so what they are saying is that it is a software issue and not a hardware. Did the Tuner work before you installed Windows media player? If you want to get it up and running follow the advice of the engineers, being sure to; (1) Backup files etc. (2) Do a Factory restore "you do have the disk or disks", or have it saved to a partition on your hard disk. (3) After factory reset install any programs that were not included in the backup. Please post back so others will know if this corrected the problem.

I am hoping I can correct the problem without a clean install, as going through the hassle of all that, is not worth it. Put it this way, I'd want a more important reason for having to reset my machine. e.g. As a last resort against a virus or something.

Re: TV Tuner not Found Error in WMC

When I (temporarily) had an HP Multimedia machine, within a couple of days the Tuner stopped working - tuner not found.

I found that moving it to another slot rectified the situation.

Of course, then I returned the machine and built the one in my signature....
