Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

I am not sure if you can do that as WiMP 11 is integrated into Vista - I went searching and could not find it....let me look some more.

Even Vista Users: How do you uninstall Windows Media 11? - Rhapsody - Real Support Community says that the US versions have it integrated.

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

Yet another update.. The Xm app is now broken on my rig. Yesterday (06-26-08), there were two updates available for my version of vista. One was a security update, the other was to fix something in regards to using HD and an xbox 360 as an extender. I didn't make note of the KB's.

Long story short.. I installed the updates, tested XM and it is broken although everything else works including an XM sidebar gadget.

I didn't feel like spending the time to roll back the updates last night to see if I can get it to work again.

This problem is wide spread. There are several users on several forums reporting the same problem.

On one forum, a user contacted someone at XM and when that person tried the XM app on their reg, it didn't work for them either. The post said that the problem has been escalated on the side of XM.

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

You can always look in your WU history to see what the KB #s were....

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

Rolling back the updates did not fix XM. Doing a system restore did not fix XM. Restoring a drive image from a couple of days ago, that fixed it but now I have another clue...

Adobe Flash Player... Yep. After the drive image restore I restored my data files which changed since the drive image. Outlook mailbox (pst), my financial data, iTunes, etc.

Testing XM, always worked. Then a popup on my screen said that adobe flash player needed an update. Actually, it said that there was an update available. I updated flash player, tested XM and it is broke AGAIN!.

I could not roll back the update so I just uninstalled flash player in the control panel. Launched Media Center, Music, More Music, XM Radio.

Now XM won't load at all. It seems that the XM menu uses Adobe Flash Player. On the screen was a link to click that would install / download flash player. Once the install started, a warning screen popped up saying that the software (Flash Player) was not written for Vista. I let it install anyway and wha-lah, XM works again.

This is nuts... Every time it breaks, I think I know the cause. Maybe this time I am right.

If anyone with this same problem has the guts, uninstall adobe flash player and re-install it. See if that fixes the XM app.

Edit: I was just on the adobe site. There is no official support for the flash player. There are all kinds of complaints about the player update breaking things. There are also several solutions in the forums.

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

Yeah, that is one of the problems with the flash player - it tends to be set to automatically update itself.

This should help: How to disable auto-update notification in Flash Player

Also see IT Administration: Configuring Flash Player auto-update notification and Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager for more info.

Basically, once you get the *correct* version of Flash player installed, you'll want to disable auto updates / update notifications so it will not interfere with the XM app.

Also, you'll probably want to find the XM forums where someone else may have already reported this solution,or else where you can help other XM users to solve this problem.

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

Guys over on the greenbutton are confirming my fix. The twist is that you have to use version 7 of the flash player. Version 9 does not work which may be why I got a warning about installing flash player that was not written for Vista.

Re: VMC - XmRadio App - Audio

Version 7???

O, that is *definitely* an XM problem then - Version 7 is way too old for this.

All you XM users need to start hounding XM to re-write their apps for *this* millenium....
