Since installing service pack 1, I cannot find windows media player or the Media center.
I have looked every where and when I tried to download it again I got the following message.

There is a more recent version of Windows Media player (11.0.6001.7000) already installed on your computer. It is not possible to use an older installation package (11.0.5721.5146) to install files or to repair your current version of the player.

I can't even find it to uninstall it and then download it again! Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have just found another post which said to right click on the desktop and type in C:|windows\ehome\ehshell.exe to create a shortcut. This worked but when i tried to open the application using administrstor option I got this message

Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information contact your system administrator. I am the administrator and I don't know what I'm talking about!! Any ideas please???

Hi Yorkshire,

Can you upload proper screenshots for us to see? Use an imagehost like ImageShack® - Image Hosting

Re: I've lost Windows Media player again!

Yeah there are no downloadable setup files for WMP, reinstalling WMP and MC requires the reinstall of SP1 itself because that was the last setup update

Try these commands for running WMP and Media Center...

%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\setup_wm.exe

%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
%SystemRoot%\ehome\ehshell.exe

How did they go?

Re: I've lost Windows Media player again!

Wonderful! I've found it by typing in the 2nd command. I never cease to be amazed at the depth of knowledge that I find on this forum. Thank you so much. Just one more question if I may; how do I send a shortcut to the desktop for WMP?
