media center is not able to recognize dvd in player

vista 32 bit home premium os w\ sp1 newly installed will not play dvd in dvd r\w cd r\w player. can any help?

Have you installed the codecs?

Vista Codec Pack - 32bit & 64bit Media Player Codecs

thanks, downloaded the codecs but still can't get a dvd to play, i've tried removing the player and did a search for new hardware changes, did a search for newer drivers, still nothing seems to help.
