| Member | Exclusive User For Media Center?! Did any one do something like this? I was thinking about creating a user that only has access to the Media Center. First thing i did it, configure the media center to boot with windows! Now I need to: 1- know how configure him to open in the "Only Media Mode". 2- do something to block everything, but some games and 3 sites! gmail, yahoo and hattrick.com To make it clear, i want to configure a user that may only use the media center, some games and access does 3 sites and nothing else! How do i do it please?! Thanks |

| Newbie | Re: Exclusive User For Media Center?! Hmm.. if it's a non-Domain computer, you should be able to restrict it quite nicely with Parental Control and Local Group Policy.. Parentals can limit the websites you can visit (iirc) and there's "allow use of these programs" -type setting to allow only web browser and media center, which should deny running any other program. And to make sure, you can use Security settings to deny Task Managers and other tools that could be used to easily open other progs. Happy configurings, I hope you get some progress with this ^^ |

| Newbie | Re: Exclusive User For Media Center?! okay, start the command prompt with "run as administrator". then type in mmc.exe to run management console.. File -> add/remove snap-in - add Group Policy Object Editor -> in welcome screen click Browse button -> look at Users-tab and select your "Exclusive User for Media Center".. ok -finish - ok. Now you should see the GPO editor view with left pane having something like Console Root - Local Computer/"MCE-user" - User Configuration. Click your way to User Configuration - Administrative Templates and look around for stuff you want to deny.. Can't remember exact locations of stuff you want, but look in different folders. There's a LOT to deny! You can force old-style start menu without any run-possibility, deny command prompt, deny help to start programs... etc, fool around in there! edit: System - Ctrl + Alt + Del Options: Remove Task Manager: enabled. Other useful ones to enable are System: Prevent access to regisrty editing tools and the command prompt |
