Changing Folders Displayed in Media Centre

Originally my intention was to go the whole nine yards with WMC, ie, the dual digital TV tuners/PVR thing etc etc. However, I ended up getting a deal on a Sky+ box, so, long story short, I really just use it to play music and movies. I don't have an extensive picture library and so on, so I just get it to watch the \Music and \Movie directories. All the others have been removed from the watch-list and now I would like these other folders to die with dignity as far as the main interface is concerned. I don't want to have to go up (to Pictures) then across to Videos. I know this may seem as if I would be interested in hiring someone to do my breathing for me, and maybe I won't lose any sleep over it, but I would like to slim down the primary interface if it can be done.

I personally haven't got round to trying it, but these MAY point you in the right direction:

Customising the VMC Start Menu - Australian Media Center Community

Customize the Media Center Menu | Media Center Guides

You might have to wade through this one:

Re: Changing Folders Displayed in Media Centre

Well, I've got rid of the TV tile via a pretty simple Registry hack. However, getting rid of the others is going to require editing xml files and using a resource hacking tool. Hmm... But, it's all definitely very doable so thanks again!!

Modding VMC has been one of things 'I'll get round to'. it's only a year and a half later....

I used this resource app when I was modifying Vista themes and found it to be pretty useful. From memory it lets you delve into all manner of things. unfortunately, it's a 30 day shareware trial, but that should give you plenty of time to fiddle with things

Restorator 2007 Resource Editor - Restorator - Bome Software

If you find a better free one though, I'd be happy to hear of it

Ah, yes, I was looking at Restorator, but I found a free tool called XN Resource Editor that enabled me to peer into .exes and .dlls. However, I found a tool called MC Menu Mender RapidShare: Easy Filehosting which does almost all of the work for you through a very straightforward gui.

Re: Changing Folders Displayed in Media Centre

I just downloaded it and realised I had only downloaded it the other day

Thanks to you, I was inspired and finally 'got around' to customizing the VMC menu. Took me less than a minute

It IS one easy little app

Somewhere, there's someone with a fully optimal directory structure who never loses anything. It is probably Brink!
