Windows Movie Maker crash with audio

I am using WMM (wmm 6) a lot and up to day everything was perfect, (well
except some usual crashes due to ram overuse). This morning I tried to open a
saved project and my WMM crashed. Same happen with any other project I tried
to open. Then I tried to load media files from my drive, crashed again.
After many hours of searching and trying many things I found out that
problem was the sound of some avi files I inserted. When I insert the video
it plays fine on wmm’s player and even when I drag and drop it on video time
line but if I try to drag and drop it on the audio time line the program
crashes. I don’t understand why this is happening; everything was walking
fine until today.
I checked the files with AVIcodec and their audio MPEG Layer 3 and I
got the necessary codec I need for it on my computer so I don’t get it why
the program crashes could you please help me on this one?

Re: Windows Movie Maker crash with audio

Try converting those mp3 to a .wav format and report back.

What I suspect is happening is the sound from the avi (there are over 800 types of avi files) is compressed in such a way that Movie Maker cannot handle the syncronisation of the sound to the video (refer to GOP...groups of pictures)

To convert you might like to try a free audio editior which does an excellent jop of sound file conversions called "Audacity"

Re: Windows Movie Maker crash with audio

The thing is that I was using those avi files on projects and everything was wolking just fine. I really need to open some of them cause I coudnt publish
them. The timing of those files took me ages to finish T_T my problem is not
that I cant fined an alternative way to work from now on (I am quite
expirience to this field of expertise) but my old projects saved
with those files which I cant open cause WMM crashes

Re: Windows Movie Maker crash with audio

Its not the audio who makes it Crashed Moviemaker,
some (audio)files do some other (audio into the Video)files are not working, the audio is standard from window media encoder, so also the other most working
the problem is that you still use nero for example Nero Recode.
Normally i want to use also this program.
SOLUTION IS SIMPLE
I have search for long in different forums to fixed this,
You dont need to do complex things
just change this

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter
into for example:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter-111

Now Vista not load the map DSFILTER

And you can work again and publisch your movies in moviemaker

IF you want use Nero again, change it back to the original path.
