Vista - Windows Media Player can't play 3gp files?

I uploaded a 3gp file to my computer from my phone & tried to play it in Media Player. At first it wouldn't do it, then a prompt told me I could try & run it if I wanted to. It played but now Media Player won't run on web sites, particularly the Nasa homepage (it used to ). Now I am forced to use QuickTime, which just isn't the same. I won't have RealPlayer on my computer either, just in case anyone suggests I download it. Can anyone help me with this? I really miss using WMP in my nerdy 'My Nasa' site.

also depending on which browser you use, you can change which application to use to play certain files, for example, in firefox you can click on the tools option and go to options, click on the applications tab at the top of the new window and change which media player plays what files, see attachment.
