Vista - Can't search guide listings to record a show

I'm not sure what to think of this. When I try to set a new scheduled recording in media center I can only use the guide do do so. What I mean is, when you are presented with the two options of guide or search to record a program or series from, the guide works fine, but the search always turns up no results. I always assumed they were using the same data, but then why would I be able to use the guide and not search it at the same time?

Tried reparing the registry to no avail and I don't want to do a system restore because I'm not sure when this problem began.

Hope all this makes sense.
