Connecting PC to TV

Just caught Windows.ca advert on TV which showed a young child watching his computer cartoon animations on TV. Begs the question - how do we connect PC to TV? I'm told all I need is an S-video cable, which I bought for $100, but still no connection. Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks.
Derek

Re: Connecting PC to TV

Thank you for picking up my query. I don't know about what sort of video card I have although the word Nvidia is present. However I do have s-video ports in both PC and TV. The $100 cable when connected reveals absolutely nothing. Hence my question.

Re: Connecting PC to TV

one thing you might try i do not know if it will work or not
plug the svideo into the computer and the tv diconnect your monitor
turn your tv on (s-video) then boot the computer see if anything shows up on the screen

keep in mind i do not have a nvidia card i have ati cards and that is what i did to get one of my computers to work on a tv

Re: Connecting PC to TV

To turn on the TV You will need to open personalization option. Do so by right clicking the desktop and choose personalize. Then click on the display option and you will see your tv grayed out. Click on it then find the option to extend your desktop to that monitor. After you turn it on you can set the resolution for the TV.
if your TV is on the left side of your PC then you can grab the number 2 monitor and drag it to the left side of monitor 1 and hit apply. this way your mouse will pass from one to the other like the two monitors are one.

If you need any more help or if I was not clear enough please let me know.

Later,
DemonSeed

P.S.
If I helped you out please give me some rep by clicking the little scales in the upper right corner. Thank You

Re: Connecting PC to TV

I have a DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop, trying to connect to a Samsung LCD TV. Using a vga cable I am seeing only the background of my laptop after making adjustments to connect the PC to TV.

At one point I was prompted by a window asking what mirror image I prefer. Apparently I selected the wrong one. After numerous attempts, I have been unable to see anything more than my desktop background on the tv. All windows I can see on my laptop are not transferring to the tv.

How do I change settings - where do I go, what do I do?

Re: Connecting PC to TV

I hooked up the comp to a Toshiba LCD.
I had to go into configuration and change the "input" to PC. When I did so it recognized the PC and auto adjusted the resolution and refresh. Now I have a 37" PC monitor.
