Windows Media Center still auto-starts when a dvd is inserted

I have followed the instructions in this tutorial carefully, utilizing the "tweaked" version of disabling services. All 4 WMC services are disabled and withing msconfig the "ehome" auto-start is disabled. Even with all of this windows media center still auto-starts when a dvd is inserted. What is the next option short of installing a different os? --thanks

Hello Onthestla, and welcome to Vista Forums.

What type of DVD (ex: movie) are you inserting when it opens Windows Media Center?

It sounds more like a "Default Programs" or AutoPlay issue when you have Windows Media Center opening like that. Check in AutoPlay to see what you have set for you insert that type of DVD.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Re: Services

Hello, and thanks for replying. I am backing up my children's movies so some from pixar, dreamworks, etc. are what I am utilizing. Yes, autoplay is disabled on all counts and my most recent expedition within found a box to uncheck that allowed access to the program within "set program access and computer defaults". I disabled this and upon reboot it did not autoplay but recieved a box that said windows could not open this media; I hit the "ok" button. Now I am seeking how to disable this notification as it is a constant reminder how much I hate windows trying to control everything!

    Re: Services

Is there a "Do not show this message again" or "Remember this setting" type box to check in the message?

I'm going to move our posts to the Media Center forum so that you can get more replies on this subject there as well. My knowledge on Media Center is limited.

no, I looked for something of the sorts similar to the security notifications but found nothing. On the box that pops up it only has the "OK" button on it.
