my drive is not recognizing dvds all of a sudden? it reads cds, I dont understand I have powerdvd program has worked before spins and stops thing, not with reg cds though.

Do you know when this problem began (you said "recently")? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.

I do not know,. I have not tried to watch a dvd on my computer in quite awhile, or used a dvd on my computer in quite a while. to me it would seem like it would be my software, since it is able to read cd disks, so with my restore feature Ive erased all my old restores. so if my cd/dvd drive can break on the dvd part of it only is my next question. I did uninstall my roxio power dvd program and put it back in but not do anything. maybe I should try and locate a driver for it since it is not "driving" on the dvd part. my dvd player for movies broke and now I go to use it on computer an it broke too. must be something though???

I am curious when you say DVD's are you talking movies or any DVD with Data on them?
As I read through your posts I see where you say " my dvd player for movies broke and now I go to use it on computer an it broke too. must be something though???"
