no picture on WMC or other players

I did a number of things all at once and now I've got a problem with video. Tried to add 2 x 2GB OCZ Reapers to my existing 2 sticks (bought 'em used from another forum) and problems developed - couldn't boot up, wouldn't recognize all four sticks, etc.

After much testing it has come down to this - either one stick or one slot is bad. With four sticks in it wouldn't boot. Take out the suspected problem stick from the suspected problem slot and it runs fine - only now with 6GB. I need to play around just a bit more to figure out if it is the slot or the stick that's the problem.

Now to the real problem - I get no picture when playing movies or TV shows from memory on any media player (WMC, VLC, Divx, Realplayer, etc.) Also no pic in WMC for live TV (via hauppauge card). Sound works great, but no video at all.

I had been running Nvidia 260-something and finally updated to 266.58 (which EVGA says is latest for my hardware, which is 2 x EVGA GTX 260/216s in SLI). No video. DLed 270.51 from 3dGuru and same issue.

I probably need to run driver sweeper and try reinstalling a lower driver number, but has anyone had this issue before?

Re: no picture on WMC or other players

It really is two issues I need help with. I think the RAM problem is temporarily solved. I'm really looking for help now on the video issue. I haven't had time to boot into safe mode, run driver sweeper, and then reinstall the video drivers, but before I do all that has anyone any suggestions on the video problem?

I'm also having trouble with Firefox and IE. Both programs would open, but nothing would show in either window - just the background wouild show through. I've removed the IE9 update and completely removed Firefox from the PC, but haven't yet restarted or reinstalled the IE9 update. Chrome works just fine. Wondering if these issues might be related to the video problem as well.

It might very well be. What's different about chrome?
That I personally don't have so cannot say.
The video problem may be the drivers?
I hand it to others who may have Firefox & chrome to comment.

Not so worried about the RAM, as 3 sticks are working fine now. Most concerning is the lack of picture on any media player. I get a black screen (audio is fine) for all media players except WMC, which does work in full-screen only. I was able to get FF and IE9 working by disabling hardware acceleration, but I can't get any media players to work correctly.

VLC has been fixed! The good folks at the VLC forums suggested checking my Video Output Module - had to reset it to DirectX (direct draw), which is the default, and now it works like it should. WMC is still only showing videos in full screen mode.
