    VOB files problems

I am having problems with burning DVD.

I burn a DVD from My TV DVD recorder they are VOB files they play back perfectly.

I then transfer from the DVD+RW disc to my Ext HD again they show as VOB files

I then want to watch this Movie on my TV so I burn to the same disc this is where it all goes wrong, I have used Windows Media Centre and Ashampoo.I have done this as VOB files also converted to mpeg2. Asv, DivX the results are :

Mpeg2 and asv good pic but sound out of sync

DivX pic terrible but sound in sync.

Please! What am I doing wrong.

Even though the VOB files are indeed DVD format, you will need to create a folder tree on the disc for it to be recognised, instead of just dragging the files over to the disc and burning them, you will need to create the folder tree within some DVD making software, it shouldn't be a timely job as the files are already DVD format, also with certain DVD software, you can create menus and chapters for your DVD.

    Re: VOB files problems

For a DVD to play in a DVD player, it has to have two folders:

    AUDIO_TS
    VIDEO_TS

I don't know why but the AUDIO_TS folder is always empty whereas the VIDEO_TS folder contains your .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files. If you only have a .VOB file then you are going to need some software to create the other two so that it can be played in a DVD player.

I can't confirm whether this does actually work because I don't burn videos in the way that you're trying to, but apparently Nero Burning Rom will do this for you.

What I do is to convert the .VOB files into .wmv (well I don't actually do this, I rip the DVD straight into a .wmv/.avi file) and burn that using Windows DVD maker. I would recommend that you use Any Video Converter as I have used this in the past and its great.

    1. Vob files are not supported by Windows.

Below are the audio/video formats accepted by Windows.
    • Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv
    • Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
    • Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf

Google for a free video converter and convert your vob into WMV. WMV is the most reliable format among the list of formats that are supposedly supported by Windows.

    2. You have Home Premium which has Windows DVD Maker included.
If you want to burn DVDs and be able to watch them in any portable DVD players or compuers, use Windows DVD Maker (WDVDM ).
Just open (WDVDM) and add the video file and start burning. The procedures are quite simple.

WAV is an audio codec. You need to convert to WMV (Windows Media Video).

Try converting to WMV and using Windows DVD Maker.

If that fails, try this converter:

VOB to WMV Converter - Rip and Convert VOB to WMV Free Download

    And use Windows DVD Maker

    Re: VOB files problems

I have success at last, I installed ‘Quick Media Converter’ and converted to :

PAL DVD Format HQ .mpeg (16:9)EUR. Then burned to DVD via Ashampoo (free version) now playing on dvd recorder and TV, sound is in sync and pic OK .

I assume that ‘Any video converter’ has a bug I will un install and re install.

Thanks for your replies, suggestions and help. Much appreciated
