    Re: Question

No, Viewpoint Media Player is completely different, it has nothing to do with WMP. Or even Microsoft.

Yes, WMP 11 should work fine in 32 bit systems, as far as I'm aware. I would be really surprised if it didn't work, since there's no reason for it not to.

    To clarify .....
WMP11 comes with the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled nor re-installed. It lives and dies with the system.

If you want to avoid the hassle of codecs, video/audio files conversion etc, install VLV media player.
    VLC is free.
It is widely used and highly recommended.
It plays any types of video/audio file formats.
    VLC download ......

When I had my Vista computer, I had both WMP11 and VLC. I never had to worry about codecs.

    For your information.....
There is more than one form of AVI, some of which are supported by Windows, some you need either installing codecs or converting to formats accepted by Windows such as WMV which is the most reliable format for Windows, bar none.

Most people will recommend K-lite Codec Pack. I don't have it, so I can't comment.

I just simply use Prism video converter. It is free, not fancy but does the job for me.

WMP, Windows Media Player is a built-in proagram that comes with Vista operating system.

View Point Media Player is a 3rd party plugin. It is not a Microsoft product.
Excerpt from : Why is Viewpoint on my computer?
What is Viewpoint Media Player?Viewpoint Media Player is a web browser plug-in that enables users to view 3D content and other rich media, such as Flash® content and video, on the Internet. Viewpoint Media Player is the graphics engine for AOL® Instant Greetings™, AIM Themes and other popular web applications. Viewpoint Media Player is distributed with AOL, AIM, versions of Netscape™, certain Adobe® products, and some retail computers sold today.
