windows media center missing from my OS

I have vista home premium and i used to have windows media center. but alas i dont. not on this pc. not sure how or why or when, but it dont exist. I'm using an xbox as my device(extender) and I have another PC (laptop) that I've set up to use windows media center and that works fine (laptop has windows 7).

So I know sometime (probably while I was trying to tweak my shared folders perhaps) I must have deleted or uninstalled it.

But you'd think I'd know that wouldnt you?

    Any suggestions?

    Well,

Not sure how or way you would delete the Windows media player folder in "C:/Programs Files" or how you un-installed it.

So I have zipped my copy of the folder & posted it here (removed file). Unzip it to the above location. OK?

Do you still have the shortcuts on the system?

**** Just noticed you only have SP1 installed. ****

Update the system & you should get it back!

    Hi,
Sorry but this is the current answer from MS.

How do I get Media Center?

If you're using an edition of Windows Vista that doesn't include Media Center, you can probably upgrade your computer to one that does using Windows Anytime Upgrade. For more information, see Windows Anytime Upgrade: frequently asked questions.
    Just a thought.

Look in C:/Windows/ehome folder & run the "ehshell.exe" application file (Media center), you might be able to recover it's function?

Try running SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt - this should bring back any missing files.

You should also see what is installed in Windows Feature - go to Programs & Features, Uninstall a Program. Click on the Windows Features option. If Media Center is ticked as being installed, UNcheck it, and OK out, then reboot - then go back in and recheck it, OK out and reboot again.

    See if that helps

Problem Solved! It was as simple as finding ehshell.exe.

    Thank you very much
