I just bought a new Canon Vixia HFR300. It records in MP4 or AVCHD onto a SD card. However, none of my video players, Media Center, VLC Media Player, or Real Player, can play either format. What do I need to do to fix this problem.

I use Media Player Classic Home Cinema and get it from
Combined Community Codec Pack
CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack
CCCP is a community codec site and is quite open you can see exactly what you are getting
Media Player Classic Home Cinema was a Microsoft player that Microsoft dumped
A group of people that liked it developed it into one of the best players out there
It will play 108 different file types by default
Don't let the name CCCP fool you, that is just their little play on words and the site is hosted in U.S.A not Russia as you might think with that name.
Codec packs can be quite destructive to your system. The only reliable one I have found if the Shark Codec Pack. But it would be a lot easier and less risky if you used the VLC Media Player.
