| windows vista ultimate 32bit | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista Hello, I am not quite sure I followed what you were looking for in task manager. I took a snap shot of it for you (attached). When I clicked on the new icon, per your instructions, it shows that it is running..even though it never opened. Interestingly, it shows an odd icon for Outlook. Then I clicked on Outlook from the start up menu and it shows that it is not responding...but it has the traditional Outlook icon next to it. Please let me know if this is what you are referring to. And thank you again for your time. I really appreicate it. ![]() Betty |

| Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista Well, that's really weird. The strange icon you mention is a generic application icon. Which of those two did you start first? The one I had you make or the other one? If you did the start-menu one first, the issue could be something you could watch under the "Processes" tab in Task Manager (image name would be OUTLOOK.EXE). Still, I'm getting really curious about the root issues here. So, if you could, restart your computer. Then, go to that root file you pointed at for the shortcut. By that, I mean go through the files in your C: drive and all those folders until you come across that file. Double clicking on the Outlook file should open it up. If not, we'll at least know that we have something completely different going on and we can change tacks. |

| windows vista ultimate 32bit | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista I am sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back to you. The week got ahead of me. Re: your questions, I opened the shortcut that you had me set up first. Then I tried the old Start Up menu Outlook. No luck with either. I also went into the Outlook.exe file and that wouldn't open either. Best regards, Betty |

| Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista Well, that means it's a program issue and not a shortcut issue. It leaves me mostly out of ideas. Here are a couple of options: 1) Call Microsoft's helpline or use their online help. It's not necessarily a great option, but it might give you a chance. 2) Send a PM to brink, z3r010, or Asky to see if you can get them to help out. They are 3 of the Admins here and have a very good understanding of the OS and applications on it. If I have any more ideas, I'll let you know, but you've already done a reinstall, so I'm not sure doing it again would be of any value. |

Only been happening a week or two but I can't get anywhere with it. |

| Vista Home Premium | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista Help. Outlook 2007 will only open in safe mode. Though workable, it isn't a good long time solution. Here's what I've done from scouring various internet user groups. I'm hoping somebody here ends that cycle. I've: 1. Run scanpst.exe. No errors on my .pst file. 2. I've disabled all Outlook add-ons. 3. I've done resetting of outcmd.dat and extend.dat 4. I've created a new .pst file and done an export of the old .pst to that new .pst. 5. I've created a new desktop shortcut icon that points to Outlook 2007 in the office directory There is the sum and substance of all the advice I've seen. I'm left with the problem, i.e., I click on Outlook 2007 and I get the splash screen along with fragments of the normal screen in the upper left hand corner: file, edit, view, go, tools, help, search - menu bar. That's it. Cursor is frozen. I do the 3 finger salute. Up comes task manager. I end the task, reclick on Outlook 2007 icon and I'm allowed to load the app in safe mode. What I'm looking for is a real smart guy/chick who has been down this route and has the 'fix'. You he/she? p.s. by the way, Microsoft's support site is absolutely lousy and leads only to an invitation to spend $49 with MSFT product support. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista I have a similar problem. Outlook ran briefly when I first installed Office 2007 SBE on my new laptop (an Acer Aspire 5720 running Vista Home Premium). After importing my addresses from an earlier 2003 version of Outlook, I thought we were away on a fast camel, but then it stops early on in the load, and say it will look on-line for a solution. It then says to shut down the program. All the other Office programs run normally. But I really want to run Outlook for my email. I don't know if you have made any progress Betty. Perhaps you have had to resort to Incredimail!!?? Ken |

| Ultimate x64 | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista I have been having the same no start up or start up in safe mode problems on Vista Ultimate x64. What I have noticed in the tasl manager processes tab is that when Outlook does not open there are two Outlook.exe *32 process started. One uses up 33.152 K f memory and the second 2,204K. If I kill both processes from that task manager tab Outlook will open OK the next time. If I watch the task mgr processes tab closely when launching outlook there is briefly two Outlook.exe *32 process open at the same time. If one of the processes stops the software opens ok. If both remain open Oulook hangs up. WHAT IS GOING ON. But more than that how can I fix the problem? I now have 3 Outlook new shortcuts for outlook and they all have the same problem. KenV |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Outlook 2007 won't open in Vista Yes, I tried the Office repair early on, and it didn't seem to make any difference. As I have another computer I have temporarily shelved the Outlook problem on the laptop. Also I was hoping some bright soul might have an answer to the problem. |
