I've just re-installed Office 2007 on Vista Ultimate x64, and when I imported the PST that I exported from Office 2003 (that was on my XP machine), it froze, and I had to use Task Manager to close it.
Now, when I open Office 2007, it just "freezes". I check task manager, and it's using 25% CPU resources (100% of one of the cores on my Phenom Quad). I can't click anything. I can't move the window around. Nothing. And it does not show "Not Responding" as is usual when a program crashes in Vista. SCANPST shows no erros in the PST files. How do I fix this? |

Out of curiosity, have you ever let it run just to see if it will sort itself out? (Oh, and in the text of the post, you mean Outlook, not Office, right?)
I had the issue with Outlook once when I had corrupted the file and it had to sort itself out. 2 minutes later, it was fine and the problem hasn't recurred. Also, do you have all the Office updates (there have been quite few)? If not, I'll look around for a few things. I wonder if they changed format from 2003 to 2007 so that they aren't really compatible. Or, maybe that's what's going on; some of the conversions can take awhile, especially if your file is big (think of how long it can take to convert a large .docx to .doc). Anyway, if you could give me that information, I'll get to work on solving this one for you. |

One other thing: Try starting Outlook in Safe Mode. To do that, hold the CTRL key while clicking on the icon.

Outlook 2007 has got to be the most unreliable Outlook ever made, I have uninstalled it on all my machines and replaced it with the rock solid 2003

Apologies for the late reply guys, but my ADSL was down again.
To answer FightingScallion, when Outlook 2007 froze on me, it didn't take a few minutes to resolve itself. I left it running overnight (about 8 hours) and when I got back in the morning, it was still frozen. No "Not Responding" messages. Nothing. I couldn't even move the window. And z3r010, I think you and I differ greatly on this. I've actually found Outlook 2007 to be highly stable and reliable, despite this little glitch I've just had, which is the first real major issue I've had with it. And as for the solution, it is perhaps one I'm not happy with, as I'm no closer to finding out what originally caused the problem to begin with. But it worked: I completely uninstalled the entire Office 2007 package, and manually deleted all remaining traces of Outlook 2007 (.PST files and the like). I installed Office 2003, setup my e-mail account, imported my backup PST file. Once I was sure that everything was working, I performed an Upgrade installation of Office 2007, and now Outlook 2007 is working without any problems or hangups. Maybe I should not have originally first installed the Office SP1 before restoring my backup emails? |
