Error 1406

Ok I tried looking around for a cure for this one.
What I was trying to do was install Microsoft Office 2003.
I get an Error Msg: Error 1406 Setup cannot write the value to the registry key \CLID\{13DE4A42-8D21-4C8E-BF9C-8F69CB068FCA}

Ok So my thought maybe for some Reason I need to login as Administrator. (Even know the login I am using should have Admin rights)

When I try to login as Administrator I get the Blue Screen of Death????

HELP!!!!

Please give detail instructions I ride the short bus and I am slow!

Michael

Re: Error 1406

Hi Michael,

Insert the disc into your drive and close it whilst holding down 'Shift' to prevent it from automatically running. When the light on the drive has gone out, click on the start orb and then click 'Computer' in the right hand panel. Right click on your optical drive and select 'Explore'. Browse the disc for the set-up program. When you have found it, right click on it and select 'Run as administrator'. After providing administrative credentials, the program should install.

Re: Error 1406

Hi Michael,

You might need to uninstall the previous installation and then try again. If that still fails, then you might be better off getting a copy of Office 2007 which is Vista compatible.

Re: Error 1406

If possible try to install from safe mode. Also, check if the registry key you mentioned already has a value. It might be an older version of MS Office that you will need to uninstall. If the problem continues, call MS. They offer free installation help.

Re: Error 1406

Wait! Try disabling the UAC. It might simply be it is blocking the install, even for an admin.

Re: Error 1406

Tried it wth UAC turn off.

To be honest guys/Gals I think if I could login as Administrator I could install!

Anyone have information on why I can't not login as Administrator.
Keep in mind I could login as Administrator in SAFE MODE?

Re: Error 1406

Honestly, no, even as *Administrator* you are restricted in access rights for some things.

The big issue here is what you have already done to your computer in the past, such as changing settings, taking ownership of registry hives / folders, etc - we need to know all that you have done in specific detail.

FWIW - I have a completely default installation of Vista x64 - no taking ownership of anything, no disabling of UAC, no disabling services - and it runs absolutely fine.

I am concerned that something that you may have tried in the past is now preventing you from installing this - as I have installed Office 03 on several Vista machines (as that is the only thing the University uses at the moment).
