Vista - Can't Open Old Word Docs in Vista)

Hi. Just joined. I'm unable to open old word documents (i.e. Word 2000, Word 2003) on Vista's Word V. 9. Can anyone help.

Could you post the error message you get? If you get one....it sounds like a compatability problem. I would take a look at this update, and see if maybe you need it, Im not the most tech savy to know if it would be what does work.

Are you running Microsoft Office 2007??

If so, to open, save, or read Office 2007 file formats (Word=XML Powerpoint=Powerpoint 2007 Presentation Excel=Excel 2007 Workbook or XML) You do need to install the compatibility Pack noted in the above post.

This works for opening 2003 documents in 2007 and opening 2007 documents in 2003.

Thanks for quick reply. Error message as follows: "Works cannot open C\:users\michele\desktop\mydocs242308\micheles's resume\mlegearresume6.doc\the file may be in use by another application, the file format may not be supported by anoy of the installed converts, or the file may be corrupt."

Thanks for quick reply. I do not have Office. I have Works version 9. I opted not to buy the Office package from Microsoft after the trial period. Apparently the Works
program in Vista is not recognizing earlier Works versions. Doesn't make sense.

I am not sure if this will work but you might want to try using open office, it's a free program and I use it. It contains most of the features of office and is compatible with most of the office formats, here is the link
