Vista - ms Word not closing

Word opens in Vista, picks up files and mouse, but it does not close until asked to after two error messages. Suggestions please

need more info.

try the attached file to see what is running and kill the word program.

Thanks, but ran procexp.exe and no recognisable Word program listed in box which opened so could not "kill it"
Problem unsolved as Word still does not close with normal X at top right but only as an option after two error messages saying it has stopped working. Ian

Is word part of Works or an office xxxx product?
What are some stats of your system?
Check event viewer to see what is causing the error.
Is the software OEM, store bought or kaza? ( reinstall if you have discs)

Type winword /safe in run and let the word open. Now try to close. Let me know the result

Problem solved and Word closes again. I had a file sent in English from a Japanese language computer. It had intricate and hidden editorial comments which I made to show and then deleted, and then deleted the whole file. I don't know technically how but it solved the problem and Word now closes. Thanks everyone. Ian

I have much the same problem . . . which started with the "mouse not highlighting text" problem in Word 2007. I eliminated all of the adds-ins in the registry as suggested in an earlier thread as that problem was fixed.

However Word 2007 has become unusable for me because: 1) The program will not close 2) You lose control - and it goes into an endless loop - the moment you try to do anything other than typing 3) For example 'Search & Replace' 4) Or Save and when you go back in you find all the documents that you could not save are there as "Recovered" but you still cannot SAVE any of them! and Word will not let you close the Recovered panel.

I have tried to System Restore to various dates in the past but the system (Vista Ultimate) will not allow that to happen. I have also reinstalled Office 2007 a couple of times.

If i run word as suggested above - "Run . . . winword /safe" it closes ok and i can search and replace. But when i go back to normal Word my problems are still there.

Is the solution to always run in winword /safe mode? I don't mind if that mode works the same as in the normal mode (?) as right now Word is unusable and i have to create all my word docs on my laptop.
