Vista - Insert picture in Wood 2007 64 bit Vista

I am having great difficulty with getting pictures/image inserted into Word 2007 documents. I get the white box. I've searched the internet and found out how to get the white box removed when I'm in .docx, but when I save it to a doc file to send to those not in Word 2007, the image always goes as a white box only. Further, when I get a correction to that document sent back to me, the images again are back to whit boxes, but now cannot be turned transparent.

I am operating primarily Adobe stuff and on Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Any advise is appreciated. By the way, when I use my 32 bit laptop, all the same documents show the image, not the white box.

Interesting, several hits, but no reply. Was it in the Title with "Wood 2007" rather than Word 2007? Or was it a stupid question? Still perplexed and certainly no solution.
