Vista - Problems opening word documents on vista

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, 2007 and Microsoft word 2007 and when I try to open a word document from my e-mail that was not created in vista, I get an error message in microsoft word that reads: "windows cannot find [the document name]. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." And then, it will not open. Is there some kind of a compatibility download available so that I can open documents made in older word versions on vista? Thank you!

save the attachment to your documents folder, then try and open it.

I've tried that, and I tried again after reading your post, and all I get is another warning pop-up that says "Error: unable to download file [file name] from [e-mail website]". Any other suggestions?

This is a toughie, but here are a few long-shots:

1. When you're trying to open the document, try right-clicking your mouse and selecting Open With. That gives you multiple options to try, to see if any of them will work.

2. Try saving the document, by right-clicking and selecting Save Target As. That also gives you multiple options.

3. If you have IE8, try clicking on Compatibility View first, then try downloading the attachment.
