Excel documents not displaying in explorer

Having a very wierd experience with excel. I have created a new document and saved it. If I close it I can open it again by clicking on open within excel. If I go to search and type in the name it appears in the list and the location is where I saved it. However if I open Windows Explorer and go the right folder it isn't there (some other excel docs are). I doesn't matter if i save it as 2003 or 2007 style (I have 2007 installed)

Anyone any ideas how come explorer can't see the file, but excel and search can? Is this some wierd indexing issue??? Thanks for any help as quite confusing if documents exist or not!
