Vista - Outlook Reminder popping up, Can't be dismissed and never set

I am having a persistent, but intermittent problem with a reminder screen popping up with say 150 or more 'reminders'. All of which are overdue, and none of which were actually set as I do not set them. It pretty much locks up outlook, I click on dismiss repeatedly and it keeps coming up. Office version 2007.

I ran diagnostics at your suggestion. Outlook aborted in the middle of the diagnostics, but the procedure completed and reported no problems. However, it then attempted to go online to search for additional solutions and would not connect. I am not sure why, as I have no internet connection problems but the message had to do with cannot connect to Watson server.

When outlook aborted it restarted without my view setting and I had to redo all that; it is unclear to me if the abort has anything to do with the reminder problem.

Mmmm. Haven't heard or read of that "glitch" before. Very unusual.

How long have you had your phantom reminder problem?[ ie since installing Outlook or sometime later.]

Is your system updated? [Windows SP2, Office, Anti Virus etc]

What Anti Virus are you using?

Could your problem be associated with your Anti Virus email scanning components?????

[ IMHO - Email scanning on anything but the email server, will often create problems,. You do not need email scanning, it is redundant, it does nothing useful and can create problems. Your system will be fully protected without it, provided you keep the file system scanner up to date.]

I previously had Norton, currently I am using AT&T McAffee. I had the problem with both antivirus programs and it doesnt seem to be related to attachment emails or active scanning. My system is fully updated, I am compulsive about that.

I have had the problem off and on for the past year, was some time after installation before I noticed it.

I downloaded and ran the Norton Removal tool. It ran through its procedures and all the while did not give any specific messages indicating it actually did anything or any sort of log so I have no indication there. I see no difference in my system and outlook diagnostics still can not connect to the internet. As for the intermittent problem, well, it is very intermittent so I have no idea if it is gone. Sometimes it happens two days in a row and sometimes waits a month.

Your problem is not unique.[I have been doing some wider reading & there doesn't appear to be any easy answer.]
Is it worth your time & effort to uninstall & reinstall? [ to see if that makes any difference.]
Have you actually turned off the email component of McAfee? [You mentioned that it doesn't seem to be related to attachment emails or active scanning.]
The only other suggestion would be to contact support MS Office / Outlook.

I can turn off the email attachment scanning from McAffee, but I don't see the relationship between this and reminders popping up 200 at a time. Does it matter I am using AOL IMAP? And that I have Microsoft Office Business edition with contact manager installed?

I am not sure whenyou say this email attachment scanning is redundant, if I don't let the anti virus program scan attachments the only recourse is the wait for the weekly full system scan.

I am not personally familiar with McAfee & its workings.
I'm not sure if Office Business edition with contact manager would make a difference.
However it is known that some Anti Virus progs, with the email scanning component active, can create conflicts within Outlook etc. [The phantom reminder annoyance for you may be a result of this.]
As I suggested earlier contact support. I have used them for an earlier version of Outlook & found them to be particularly helpful.[via remote desktop.]
