Office H&S 2007 install on Vista x64

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some help.

I just replaced my 10-year-old PC and am trying to install Office Home and Student 2007 on my new Vista 64 machine. Unfortunately, whether I use the autorun or manually double-click setup.exe on the disc, nothing happens. I get an hourglass briefly, the disc spins in the drive, and setup.exe appears in the task manager for about three seconds then disappears. Nothing else happens.

I've downloaded every available update from Microsoft. I'm logged in as an administrator, I've tried to right-click on setup.exe and select run as admin from there, I've tried changing compatibility mode to XP SP2, and nothing seems to work.

I've been searching online for awhile now and can't find anything with regard to this issue. Has anyone seen this before? Or, can anyone give me some suggestions? I didn't anticipate any problems because I read in many places that Office 2007 runs fine on Vista 64, so I uninstalled Works and the free 60-day Office trial from my new PC before I tried to install the full version of Office to avoid conflicts. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Word or Excel now, and it's going to be a problem.

Help! Thanks in advance.

Hello Macks1974 & welcome,
Confirming that I use the same Office Home & Student program successfully on Ultimate 64-bit with no problems at all.

Refer the highlighted sections above - Home & Student or full version. Which one is correct?

Have you successfully installed any other program via your CD / DVD / optical drive? [Just checking that it isn't faulty. ]
Could you have a corrupt disc?[ Does it work properly on another computer?]

re: Office H&S 2007 install on Vista x64

Hi, Thanks for replying.

I was in the midst of replying when I had a thought: try copying the disk to my hard drive first and install from there. As soon as I double-clicked setup.exe the installation started.

Kind of wierd since my dvd drive seems to read other disks fine. At any rate, thanks for your reply; asking about my disk drive made me think about trying to install from my HD.

Thanks!

re: Office H&S 2007 install on Vista x64

Unfortunately, all is not well. The installation is telling me it can't find OfficeMUI.msi. It's on the disk (and now is copied to my hard drive) but it acts like it's not there.

Wierd.

**EDIT** I cancelled setup and tried to run it from the disk again, and this time the installation started right up. I then got the same error message about not being able to find the msi file (above). So I decided to reboot, but now it won't run off the disk again. So I copied the disk contents back to my HD again, and when I double-click setup.exe I now get a message saying that a certain dll is not found or there is something wrong with it.

I'm about ready to hit something.

I'm an idiot.

I disabled Norton AntiVirus and tried again, worked perfectly. I had McAfee on my old PC and never had to disable it for anything, so I never even considered that maybe my anti-virus program was interfering.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

You may like to keep this link, just in case you ever need it.

How to manually uninstall the 2007 Office system if you cannot uninstall it by using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature

[No, you are not an idiot. ]
