| Windows Vista Home Basic | Outlook address book My home computer is Windows XP with outlook 6. My new laptop is Vista Home Basic. I cannot find how to transfer my contacts from home to laptop. I really have tried. When I go to windows explorer and search for the microsoft\outlook, nothing comes up, and I have clicked "show hidden files". I really only need the contacts, can someone help? Step by step, please. (Vista is all new to me.) |

| Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP2 | Re: Outlook address book I'm curious about the Win.XP Outlook 6 you say you have. Please click the program to bring it up - go to Help - click "About MS Office Outlook" or equivalent wording - What does the top line under the heading say? [I am not aware of any Outlook 6 program. I still think you mean Outlook Express 6. References - Outlook Express is an e-mail/news client that was included with Internet Explorer versions Internet Explorer 4.0 through 6.0. As such, it was also bundled with several versions of Microsoft Windows, from Windows 98 to Windows XP. AND If you are using Internet explorer 6 (all versions) then Outlook Express is provided as part of Internet explorer and so if you upgrade Internet explorer then you automatically upgrade Outlook Express. To be using Outlook 2003 you would have had to purchase it to put it on your XP computer. | Windows Vista Home Basic | Re: Outlook address book I have opened my outlook and under Help, it does say "Microsoft Outlook Express 6." My new vista machine says "Microsoft Office Outlook 2007". And it did come with my Office Package. So, you are correct. When I export by address book from OE6, I get a wab file, not a pst file. So they are not compatable? Ok, what would you suggest is the best way for me to go? As you can tell, I am not computer savy. Should I keep this, or change to Explorer? At this point would it be easier to type a new contact list? |

| Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP2 | Re: Outlook address book As you have two computers, [one with XP /Outlook Express, another with Vista /Outlook ] involved in the migration of your contacts, plus the fact that you state that you are not computer savy, IMHO it would probably be be quicker & easier [with much less frustation] to manually put your contacts directly into Outlook 2007. Yes I would suggest you use Outlook as your email client particularly as you have Office. I use it & see no reason to change. Please post back & let us know how you go |

| Windows Vista Home Basic | Re: Outlook address book Dear JMH, Thank you so much for your help. I just didn't even realize when I started that I had two different programs. I will continue to use Outlook, I believe once I have this information within Office, I will be able to use it for other things also. Have a good week, and again thank you for taking the time!!
