Maintaining window size in Word

With earlier versions of word if you set a document window to a particular size other than the maximum and then shrank that window, when you reopened it, it would be the same size.
If you opened another word doc and shrank it to a different size, word would remember that too.

in Vista all documents open to same size (word and excel too), whether I want them to or not. Also annoying-- if I have several minimized docs., opening any one of them causes them all to open.

I'm sure this is Vista trying to be "helpful" and "useful" but it isn't.

Thoughts on how to solve this?

p.s.
I don't want to compare doc, *that* I can do.

Re: Maintaining window size in Word

A few thoughts. . .

Re: Vista settings: First, I would open one document window, and manually expand the edges by putting your cursor on each of the 4 edges, and dragging each edge to the exact size you want it to be.

Vista sometimes takes several reboots to "remember" the document window's size, so I would then shut down and reboot a couple of times, to see if Vista remembers the size.

Re: MS Word settings: In MS Word, if you have a document shrunk to too small of a size, Word will "think" you want to see 2 pages on the screen. Try opening a Word page and adjusting the Zoom (slider at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen) to make the document size a little larger, just large enough so that you see only one document on the screen.
