Please Help

I can receive e-mail only; am unable to send e-mail from my main administrator account. I have a secondary account set up on this computer and it sends and receives with no problems but I need to be able to effectively send (and receive) e-mail from my main e-mail account address. My ISP says I need to call Microsoft and that it is not a problem on their end.

For awhile I could send only if I closed Outlook (while the outgoing messages sat in my outbox) and then re-opened it. Now that doesn't even work.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Mary

Re: Please Help

Mary,
Have you tried the following?
Outlook - Tools - Account Settings / Email Accounts / click on the faulty account - click repair. [ then whilst in this section also check out Change / make sure your settings are all correct & then click Test Account Settings.]
If that doesn't work try Outlook / Help / Office Diagnostics.
Hope that helps you.
Post back your results.

Re: Please Help

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I still cannot send. When I went to Tools/Account settings/Repair, the response was "an encrypted connection to your mail server is not available". I then continued and tried connecting with an unencrypted connection but the response was "a test e-mail cannot be sent, you might need to adjust your account settings to send e-mail messages.

My incoming and outgoing mail server (SMTP) addresses are the same and were verified as correct by my ISP.

I made sure that all of my settings are exactly the same as on my secondary e-mail account, as that one has no problems sending or receiving. Still, my administrator account cannot send.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my inquiry and attempt to help me out.

MAry

Re: Please Help

It's Mary again. I have one more observation that may serve as a hint to this mystery. When I hit the send button on the messages currently just sitting in my outbox, I check the progress of the "send" and it indicates that it was sent. No errors appear. The problem is that it was not sent and remains in my outbox.

Now, that means nothing to me except it gets me frustrated. But perhaps someone with technical skills may be able to suggest an idea.

Thanks!
Mary

Re: Please Help

Mary,
When did you first notice this glitch? [ when you originally installed Outlook or after the current 2x Outlook updates from MS.]
Is it worth deleting the offending account & creating a new one to see how that goes.

Re: Please Help

I'm not sure what you mean by after the 2x Outlook Updates. This problems started today although I have been having problems sending (rectified by closing outlook and re-opening).

I would entertain the idea of deleting the account but I don't want to lose any of my saved e-mails, contacts or calendar entries.

Re: Please Help

I routinely receive updates. I reviewed the update log for 2009 and there was an Outlook update in June, and a security and junk mail filter updates during 2009.

Re: Please Help

Go to Outlook - Help - Check for updates, to see if you get any more.
I receive Outlook updates monthly. June is a long time ago.
