Dear all,
My vista laptop won't spell check in Word. I have tried a number of things to try and solve this problem but none seem to work. I have gone to WORD OPTIONS; PROOFING and checked all the appropriate boxes and it still won't check my spellings. It works for the grammar but doesn't even pick up made up words that I try to test it with! I have checked my dictionary and ran the Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

I have watched the tutorials and read one other post with the same problem but there was no solution for it.

Please help!

Don't know if this will help, but it can't hurt... go to the control panel > programs and features, mouse over "micrsoft office" and choose "change" (top of page, see attached), then when a new screen comes up, choose "repair".... maybe it wasn't installed 100% .... good luck

Thank you! I did try this but it didn't work. I've found out that part of the text has the 'do not check spelling' box checked in the language window...but I didn't check it in the first place!! Every time I un-check it, it just goes back to being checked again!! Ah well...I'll just have to keep my eye on it...it's just really irritating!

Microsoft Word 2007 spell check does not work

Thank you so much for this! I tried it (deleting the registry key), it hasn't seemed to work for the document I had problems with (my University Dissertation as well!!). I highlight all the text and then uncheck the 'do not check spelling box' but then I select a little bit of the text and the box is checked again! I have even tried doing paragraphs at a time.

I usually just hit the spell check button - that's when I noticed I had some really bad spelling mistakes that just weren't being picked up. I got an assignment back that was horrendously filled with bad mistakes that I just hadn't noticed...assuming that the computer was doing it for me!

I will keep an eye on any future pieces of work...but this one still doesn't check the whole document...it's a pain. My next resort is to contact the place I got the Word suite from...but not sure they will be much help!
