re-install of word 2000

Help!!! Please.....
I was having a ton of trouble with word 2000 on my machine. (I run XP). It
started about 9 months ago, but it was never so bad that I had to uninstall
until this weekend. So, I uninstalled it and pulled out the install disk
(part of the Works Suite 2000 set). I just need to reinstall Word. When I
went to install it asked for the 25 character product key which is on my
certificate of authenticity. Well, I have that no problem...wrong. My product
key is only 20 characters. So, now software that has been on my computer for
5 years, now can't be reinstalled. I am really upset and in a heap of trouble
without word on the computer.
Can anyone help me?????
Thanks so much for reading this.

Can we assume that you tried the key on your certificate and that it failed?
If you haven't actually tried it, do so.
If you did try it and it failed, you should try to contact Microsoft
directly:
