error 8 not reading USB after installing Windows Steady State

The USB is recognised but I get code 37 and cannot read any devices, I have
tried 4 different USB memory sticks including IronKey which was in when I
tried to install Steady State which is installed but went wrong when I
selected Protect the hard disc.
I have installed the hotfix and no improvement. What now?
Windows XP
I have posted in Stready State but no progress
Please help.
