File names in non-sequential order

This is driving me crazy and if anyone could shed some light on to why this
is happening, i'd be very grateful.

Okay. In one folder my file names will list in sequential order like this:

49006-A1.1
49006-A2.1
49006-A2.2
49006-A3.1 ect.

THEN in a separate folder on the same shared drive the files list out of
order like this:

49006-A1.2
49006-A1.1
49006-A9.1
49006-A2.1

Can anyone help?
Thanks!

I'm making assumptions here...
Assuming you're referring to presentation in Windows Explorer, what happens
if you display details view, then click on the Name column header to sort
the files by name in the second folder? Do you then get the file names
sorted?
