| | Need to upgrade my system memory to 512 MB I'm new at this and don't know where to start and really need some help. I'm working on a Gateway PC with Micorsoft Windows XP home edition that I got about 5 years ago. I'm not advanced enough to understand MB and GB's, but was advised I need to upgrade my memory to 512 MB. How do I do this and can I do it myself or do I have to take my computer someplace to have it done and what kind of cost am I looking at? Yeah I'd love a new computer, but I really can't afford that right now. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. -- afk |

| | Re: Need to upgrade my system memory to 512 MB Sorry to say it, but with a 5 yerar old Gateway that came with only 256MB of RAM, it may cost you about the same amount to upgrade the RAM (because your type of RAM is probably not made anymore) than it would to just spend 250..00 and get a new entry level PC that would be leaps and bounds better than what you have right now. Not to mention that going to 512 MB isn't going to improve your system very much because most of today's applications RAM needs plus what the operating system needs is more than that anyway. New, entry level PC's are VERY inexpensive and would be MUCH superior to your Gateway. -Scott "Ann" <Ann@newsgroup> wrote in message news:EA052104-1447-44C0-A14B-042B187FE215@newsgroup Quote: > I'm new at this and don't know where to start and really need some help. > I'm > working on a Gateway PC with Micorsoft Windows XP home edition that I got > about 5 years ago.
